Volunteers Make a Difference

Are you interested in making a difference in the lives of hospice patients and their families? Consider becoming a Carroll Hospice volunteer!

Carroll Hospice has announced its summer and fall volunteer training schedule. The training consists of two in-person classes, one at the beginning and one at the end of the session. Applicants should select to participate in the summer session or the fall session.

In between the in-person training classes, participants will complete online courses that range from about 20 minutes to 1 hour in length and cover topics such as understanding pain, compassionate conversations and the impact of grief. A short quiz is given after each online course to ensure the material is understood.

The next volunteer training in-person dates are as follows:

First in-person orientation class (choose one date):

(Summer) Monday, July 8, 6 to 9 p.m., or Tuesday, July 9, 1 to 4 p.m.

(Fall) Monday, October 7,  6 to 9 p.m., or Tuesday, October 8, 1 to 4 p.m.

Wrap-up in-person orientation session (choose one date):
(Summer) Monday, August 12, 6 to 9 p.m. or Tuesday, August 13, 1 to 4 p.m.

(Fall) Monday, November 11, 6 to 9 p.m., or Tuesday, November 12, 1 to 4 p.m.

After the training session is complete, volunteers are qualified to offer companion care at a patient’s residence, whether that’s in a private home, nursing facility or at Dove House, Carroll Hospice’s inpatient facility.
