Mt. Airy Jersey Mike’s Donates $8,359 to Carroll Hospice

As a college student Nick Sargent, franchise owner of Mt. Airy Jersey Mike’s Subs, volunteered at a hospice facility where he learned the importance of providing hospice care to patients and their families.

That is why, many years later, when given the opportunity to enhance hospice care services in the community, he selected Carroll Hospice to benefit from Jersey Mike’s Subs’ 9th Annual “Month of Giving” fundraising campaign, held in March.

The restaurant donated a total of $8,359 to Carroll Hospice—the largest amount the restaurant has raised through the month-long campaign. Sargent, along with staff members Tiffany Lang, general manager, and Ryan Lang, assistant manager, presented the check to Hannah Sturgill, annual funds and conference services specialist at Carroll Hospital, in May.

“Jersey Mike’s is all about giving [and] for us to be able to choose the charity [Carroll Hospice] was huge,” said Sargent. “It allowed us to keep it local and personal. While there are a lot of charities out there, [Carroll] Hospice is a very worthy one,” he added.

As part of the fundraising campaign, during March, customers were invited to come in to the restaurant, make a donation to Carroll Hospice and take advantage of a variety of special offers.  The campaign then culminated on March 27 during Jersey Mike’s “Day of Giving” when 100 percent of the day’s sales were donated to Carroll Hospice.

Mt. Airy Jersey Mike’s Subs is one of many local businesses making donations to the hospital and its affiliates to further its programs and services. It was through community donations that the hospital was founded in 1961 and continues to grow.

“We are extremely appreciative of Jersey Mike’s continued support of our hospice services,” said Regina Bodnar, executive director of Carroll Hospice. “We are dedicated to providing services to those who live in and around the community and it’s comforting to know our local businesses are behind us and want to help us in our efforts.”
